The Wolf Cave
Tourist Center is located on Paarmanninvuori hill in Karijoki, about
two kilometres from the downtown area of Karijoki in the direction of
Kristiinankaupunki (if driving from Kristiinankaupunki it is about 5 km
beyond Pyhävuori hill in the direction of Karijoki). The Wolf
Cave Tourist Center is open daily during the summer months.
The Center
features The World of Wolf Cave exhibition, completed in the summer of
2002. This exhibition features a wealth of information about the cave
and the various phases of its history.
This
exhibition is
especially devoted to showcasing Wolf Cave's archaeology and the many
artefacts that have been found there as well as Wolf Cave's geology and
the geological development of the area and its plant and animal life
since the ice age. At the Tourist Center you can see a 15-minute video
presentation about excavations at Wolf Cave and a multimedia production
that describes the role the ice age played in the development of the
cave. The Tourist Center also has a coffee shop and a small souvenir
shop.
There is a walking
trail about 1 kilometre long from the Tourist Center to Wolf Cave. The
trail takes you past a rock garden, a bronze-age burial site and a
"devil's field" (a moraine).
